Client Brief

A design for a cottage garden in the pretty village of Kingsworthy, Hampshire. Situated within a conservation area and within a stones throw of the river Itchen. The scheme was intended to create an atmosphere synonymous with its surroundings. The space originally felt confusing and lacking in cohesion. The clients main requirement was to remedy this whilst future proofing in terms of maintenance. The garden benefits from some very nice plants which were retained or relocated. There was also a wish to retain existing hard landscape materials where possible. As a keen fisherman, the client was also keen that water should be used as a key design element.

• A simplified layout that draws you on a journey through the space.
• Main horticultural areas close to the house for easier maintenance.
• Focal points from the house and further into the garden.
• A ‘stream like’ pond with wide wooden bridge reminiscent of the local carrier streams.
• A meadow area planted with seasonal bulbs and wildflowers
• Strategic screening with new trees and hedging.
• A secluded utility area with large shed and small greenhouse.
